In 2015, September was proclaimed as National Kinship Care Month by the US Senate. Kinship care is when an adult is raising/looking after a relative that is not their birth child. In observance of Kinship Care Month, we've gathered some helpful resources below for kinship caregivers living in New York State.


New York State Kinship Guardianship Assistance Program (KinGAP) 

A guide to KinGAP, a NY program for youth in care to achieve permanent placement with a relative who has been their foster parent for at least six months. Provides financial support and usually medical coverage for youth.

NY Kinship Navigator 

An information gateway for kinship caregivers in New York State. Includes resource listings for every county in NYS on issues such as financial assistance, legal information, referrals and more.  

The Adoption Process in New York State

A resource for the general overview of adoption procedures in New York State, something good for all prospective and current kinship caregivers to be up-to-date on.
