You deserve stability,
One that allows you to see the same faces and be remembered.
Stability, so when you place your key in the lock,
You know it will unlock the door.
You deserve faces that will not only appear
In court and visitation rooms
But will see life's ups and downs.
Even when the mountain is tall,
You will meet those faces, even if you fall.
You deserve to sit with all your lovely things,
And when you come back home,
They are right where they belong.
You deserve to walk in and smell the scent of home.
You deserve to be loved on, checked on.
You deserve to be sought after and questioned with love,
Connected to people who see you and care for you,
And will be cheering you on.
You deserve to be held accountable and shown the correct way.
You deserve to be met with unconditional love,
Because it was never meant to be earned,
Love that fights for you, stands for you, and protects you.
When you mess up, you deserve to mess up
And still be met with love, not turned away or transferred.
Permanency isn't just about an apartment and a voucher.
It includes love, connection, protection, community,
And being held up by the arms.
What is permanency to you?
